R Day – A Prayer Commentary (Praying God’s Way to Healthy, Growing, Spiritual Communities)
DEVOTIONAL: This will be bigger than D Day. Millions, possibly billions (could it be even more?) of victorious souls participating in one last battle, the last battle, against the last enemy. Death will die! At the sound of the battle trumpet, with the voice of an Arch Angel (yelling charge?), Jesus returns with all his souls ready to be reunited in the resurrection of victory. And if I am alive, I will be able to see all the dead rise, the greatest, biggest, all-encompassing display of God’s power since “in the beginning”. This is fitting. This is “in the ending”. If I am alive, after all God’s children rise from the grave, then I too will be translated, transformed, changed into my victorious new body. Call it R Day, for Resurrection Day!
PRAYER: Lord, come quickly so I may see your people returning in victory in the greatest armada this world will ever literally see! Amen.
TEXT: “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For we say this to you by a word from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” (CSB’17 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17)
