Psalm 22 – The Feelings of Feeling Forsaken
The Feelings of Feeling Forsaken (Psalm 22)
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1). When feeling forsaken or abandoned, the devil will tempt us with other tangential thoughts, preying on our vulnerability.
What other emotions would also be present when feing abandoned?
• Self doubt – “Am I not good enough? “
• Confusion – “Why me?”
• Shame – “What did I do wrong? I must have done something wrong.”
• Anger – “Why are you doing this to me?”
• Guilt – “I’m sorry for getting angry because I have no right feeling this way”
• Fear – “What’s going to happen to me?”
• Mistrust – “Can I trust you? Can I ever trust you again?”
And more! The end of Psalm 22 ends with triumph because the person realized he wasn’t forsaken. Search, understand, and properly use your emotions by talking it out with God. Don’t let the devil twist your situation into unhealthy expressions of emotions. In Psalm 22 God allowed the appearance of God’s non-presence to demonstrate for all time that God has not forsaken us.
