Loving God Means Loving My Wife
Loving God Means Loving My Wife
In answering what is the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:34–40, Mark 12:28–34, and Luke 10:25–28):
1. Jesus DOES NOT say, “Love God with your heart, soul, strength, and mind”.
2. Again, Jesus DOES NOT say, “Love God with ALL your heart, soul, strength, and mind”. 3. However, Jesus DOES SAY, “Love God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your strength, and ALL your mind”.
Jesus, and before Him an inspired Moses, is speaking about TOTALITY. ALL. TOTAL COMMITMENT BY COMMITTING TOTALLY.
Loving God TOTALLY, has tangible reactions. BECAUSE OF MY TOTAL LOVE FOR JESUS, as a husband, I will treat my wife like Christ treats the church. I will be willing to die for her. That’s bold, and unlikely to need to happen. So….
If I am willing to die for my wife, shouldn’t I be willing to do the little things she needs to make her feel secure? That includes not talking inappropriately about other women; not spending so much time “with the boys” that you neglect her; and even taking out the garbage because she asked you to. When that happens, her emotional bank account is being filled, not because you took out the garbage, but because you paid attention to your wife.
Do the simple things because you love your wife. Do it ALL sacrificially, do it ALL even when you have had an argument, fulfill ALL her needs despite how she neglected your needs, do it ALL because you love her with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your strength, and ALL your mind”. Love her totally because you first “love God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your strength, and ALL your mind”.
Wives, don’t you want a husband who loves God and you like that?
