1 Timothy 3 – Is the Orthodox Church The Pillar and Support of Truth?
Is the Orthodox Church the pillar and support of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15)? A simple test can be found in this very chapter:
From the very same chapter where Paul wrote by the Holy Spirt about the Church being the pillar and support of the truth, Paul via inspiration also wrote,
“A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife….” (1 Timothy 3:2) (Orthodox Study Bible).
Now what does the Orthodox Church teach as truth about a bishop being married?
“But something shifted between the fourth and seventh centuries. The Church started choosing bishops exclusively from among celibate priests and monks. By the time of the Quinisext Council in 691-692 AD, this became the fixed norm. Canon 12 of that council established what we still practice today: bishops are chosen from monks or from priests who’ve never married.” (https://stmichaeltx.org/…/why-cant-orthodox-bishops-be…/)
How can the Orthodox Church be the pillar and support of the truth if they don’t support the truth that bishops must be the husband of one wife?
