Works Required After Salvation but not Before?

If you believe baptism is not necessary to become saved because baptism is a work.

And if you believe baptism is necessary after becoming saved because it is a command of God.

Then you moved when baptism is necessary for salvation.

Then you believe we are not saved by works, but we must work to stay saved.
