Some Preachers
Some Preachers
Two Christians were talking about a preacher they recently heard. One said, “That’s some preacher, alright”. What kinds of “some preachers” are there?
Some preachers only teach what is comfortable. They are earning a paycheck.
• 2 Timothy 2:3 (CSB) For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.
Some preachers only teach what they already know. They aren’t studying.
• 2 Timotny 3:15 (CSB) Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.
Some preachers can’t wait to show what they know that others don’t. They are arrogant.
• 2 Timothy 3:6 (CSB) For among them are those who worm their way into households and deceive gullible women overwhelmed by sins and led astray by a variety of passions,
Some preachers too often preach something even the Bible doesn’t teach. They are studying too much what others say about the Bible.
• 1 Timothy 1:3-4 (CSB) 3) As I urged you when I went to Macedonia, remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach false doctrine 4) or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith.
Some preachers are preaching what we didn’t know, the Bible teaches, regardless of what people want, because they are mining the Scriptures and minding their consciences and Spirit.
• 1 Timothy 4:13 (CSB) Until I come, give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching.
Some preachers are just working a job while others are working out their own salvation.
• 2 Timothy 2:22 (CSB) Flee from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Some preachers don’t deserve a dime while others help us eternally.
• 1 Timothy 4:16 (CSB) Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
What kind of “some preacher” do you want to be or hear?
