How To Keep the Spiritual Fires Burning!
“How do you stay strong spiritually? I get weak when I get comfortable”. When asked that question I answered her, “You don’t”.
Now let me explain.
When I was on a trip I bought my wife “just because” jewelry. My love was on fire!
Then there are the times when my wife will ask, “Do you mind taking out the garbage?” I answer, “Yes I mind.” Then she will rephrase the question, “”Will you take out the garbage?” I answer, “Yes I will”.
What are the differences between those two scenes?
1. I enjoy doing the big, fancy shows of love. I don’t like taking out garbage.
2. I need to do things even when I don’t feel like it. The garbage needs taking out.
In other words, “I will my want to!”
The application is simple: Do good things for Jesus and others because of love. Do needed things even if the “want to” is low. That means sometimes I just have to force myself to do what is right, such as prayer, studying, helping, attending services, and so on.
2 Timothy 1:6 – Therefore, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
2 Timothy 1:8 – So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me his prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God.
If you don’t want the fire to die out remember to, rekindle, reload, and reach out…when you are strong and feel like it, or when you are comfortable and don’t want to be bothered.
