Genesis and the Gospel: Beginning and Ending
Ever notice how Genesis ends as a reversal for how it begins? Adam and Eve are “home” and then forced to leave when death starts to come. Jacob/Israel is away from “home” (in Egypt), death comes, and is carried away back to home in Canaan. This is more than just a cool literary bookend. Herein is found the gospel: Like Adam and Eve, we are born innocent at home with God in fellowship. We are forced to leave God’s home because of spiritual death and all because of Adam and Eve suffer physical death. The gospel reverses this. After death we too get to go “home”! (Philippians 1)
