1 Timothy – How To Determine False Doctrine
How do we determine whether or not a doctrine is true or false? We often resort to one sure way, but I would like to suggest others, and invite you to enlarge the list or correct what I suggest. Here are four ways to determine true or false doctrine:
1. The Source – Sound Words (1 Timothy 6:3); Book, Chapter and Verse – “It is Written”
2. The Effect – Positive: Godliness (1 Tim.1:5; 6:3); Negative (1 Timothy 1:4,6)
3. The Core – Life, death, burial, resurrection (1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Corinthians 15)
4. The Creation – (1 Timothy 2:8-15; 4:4)
All of these are fond in Paul’s letter to the young preacher Timothy, and of course elsewhere also.
