10 Ways to Get Good Out of a “Bad” Sermon

10 Ways to Get Good out of a “Bad” Sermon:
1. Pray. Pray for him, yourself, and others that the sermon will be effective.
2. Think. Let your mind be guided by your own ideas. This includes making your own notes.
3. Expectations. Not everything in a sermon is directed to you, so expect different people to have their needs met.
4. Patience. Every bad sermon has something good, so don’t give up finding it.
5. Thankfulness. Even bad sermons take a lot of work, just like meals that don’t turn out right.
6. Apply. Look inward for ways God can work on you through what is said.
7. Humility. Because something is preached differently does not make it wrong.
8. Love. There is a person who is preaching and you don’t know what all they are going through.
9. Restraint. Attitudes need checking.
10. Study. Some sermons are deeper than others. But think how rich the Sermon on the Mount is, or Romans and Isaiah.
11. Bonus – You. You know you better than anyone. What can you add to this list to help you?
Before you know it, that bad sermon might be better than he preached!
