Romans 12:3-5 – Conceit
I wonder if it is possible to think more highly of ourselves than we ought without also thinking more lowly of others?
I wonder which comes first? Thinking worse of others or thinking better of ourselves? There is a cause and effect relationship, what is the cause of our thinking?
I wonder if we realize that our view of others is actually our view of ourselves? Conceit doesn’t just look inward, it looks outward…and downward. It is no wonder that pride is pictured with the nose up in the air and the eyes cast downward.
I wonder if we label people so that we can put them into a neat little box that allows us the comfort and convenience to not think of them as an individual but rather be dismissive and derisive of them as a group. To think out of the box requires that we cannot put people into a box.
I wonder if we realize that when we put people into a big box, we have put ourselves into a smaller box.
