Matthew 16:23-24 – Get Behind Jesus or Get Behind Jesus
There is an interesting play on words in Matthew 16:23-24. Peter denies Jesus’ upcoming death (i.e., the cross) and Jesus says, “Get behind (opisō) Me, Satan.” Then Jesus says “If anyone want to come with/after (opisō) Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross….” We either deny self and get behind Jesus supporting Him, or we are put behind Jesus refusing Him because we deny His way.
