John 7:24 – Puke This!
People driving behind us might have thought I had too much to drink and way too early. Janet was driving and I was throwing up with my head out the window. No liqueur. Just somehow I had injected gluten (cross contamination I think).
And yet there is a bible lesson – don’t judge based upon appearances (John 7:24).
And yet, Jesus’ admonition goes much deeper. He was saying, in context, He should not be judged for breaking God’s law by healing on the Sabbath when the accussors already approved of circumcising on the Sabbath (v.23).
Another lesson for today? Do not be afraid to judge correctly because we are told to “judge righteously” (v.23) which means judge according to a deeper and correct understanding of God’s will. But if we only have a surface understanding, which results in judging according to appearances, to borrow from another analogy, maybe our understanding is neither hot not cold (i.e. useful), but is lukewarm. And we know what lukwarm Christians make God want to do (Revelation 3:16).
