Is Faith Impractical?

Abraham is admired and exalted as a man of faith, and rightfully so (Romans 4). But…I just noticed (or had forgotten) that although Abraham faithfully went to a land not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11) he did go empty handed! He took “all the possessions” and “all the people they had acquired” (Genesis 12:5). He was rich! Or at least “comfortable”.
Faith and practicality are not necessarily incongruent with one another. Yesthere were times such as Jesus saying to His disciples not to take anything on their journey; but the next time He gave the opposite order – “take stuff” (perryphrase).
“I’m just going out on faith” may be necessary at times…or it could be testing God (Matthew 4). I don’t have all the answers to this question, but Abraham does comfort me (and maybe others) in that this great man of faith was also very practical when living by faith.
