Hermeneutics – Four P or Not Four P
There probably isn’t “one” single way to express a Biblical hermeneutic, but here is one I like based on “Be holy for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). In order of appearance:
#1. Precept – “Be….”
#2. Principle – “Holy”
#3. Purpose – “For”
#4. Person (of God) – “I am holy”
Which of these four can we leave out? None.
If we begin with God (#4), our need to be like Him (#3), His character forming the standard (#2), and His right to command us (#1)….
Then follow through on God’s other revealed imitable attributes and various ways of His instructing us, we just might fulfill this one verse.
