1 Timothy 2:13 – Primogeniture
Primogeniture
Why do men have a leadership role in the church and home that women do not have? Paul stated, “For it Adam who was first formed” (1 Timothy 2:13). Egalitarians counter that Primogeniture (Rights of the First Born), is not what Paul refers to. Some simple points to consider are:
1. Egalitarians therefore admit there is such a position as Primogeniture or else they could not could deny it doesn’t apply here.
2. Egalitarians admit therefore if Paul did refer to Primogeniture, then Adam would possess it.
3. Egalitarians agree that the creation story is true or else they could not argue that Paul is not referring to Adam as the First Born.
All this means Egalitarians, when arguing against Primogeniture, are tacitly admitting many Bible truths.
Finding this common ground is important in establishing that everything Egalitarians admit is true, can easily be applied to Adam because Adam was created first and given responsibilities even before Eve was formed.
All this came not because Adam somehow came first, but because God formed Adam first. All rights anyone has, including rights of the first born, come from God.
