Could God Be Our Invention?
Could God Be Our Invention?
Voltaire said, “If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him”. He argued that theistic belief is essential for social order, morality, and curbing human wickedness, despite the corruption of organized religion.
Humans can’t invent what they have not experienced. Planes were based on birds. Cell phones are tech-driven conversations.
Atheists want us to believe humanity invented the God of the Bible. What kind of gods do humans create? Well, what are the dustbin of gods like? Flawed, limited, more powerful humans. People invented gods like what they knew. Pagan gods were super-versions of humanity. Basically false gods were like today’s superheroes and supervillians.
The OmniGod of the Bible could not be invented. Humans have never experienced:
Omni-existence. Humans know birth and death.
Omni-benevolence. Humans know falling in and out of love.
Omipotence. Humans know growing stronger and weaker.
Omniscience. Humans know ignorance and learning.
Omnipresence – Humans know boundaries built and broken.
The God of the Bible is an Omni-God, which human experience cannot fathom let alone create. The only way humans can know of this Omni-God is if He revealed Himself. Jesus is the greatest revelation of God.
John 1:18 (CSB) No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side — he has revealed him.
You can’t invent the true God!
