Dear Retired and Retiring Preachers
Dear retiring and retired preachers:
If you stay with the congregation and their new preacher, you can be a great blessing. So please heed the advice God gave Moses concerning the man who would follow him. Just two words, “Encourage him” (Deuteronomy 1:38).
“Encourage him” because what you started, and gave your life to, he will carry on and finish (Deuteronomy 1:38). So, no jealousy. No gossiping. No discrediting. Be his friend. “Encourage him”. He will feel empty. He will fail as you did. He will feel inadequate compared to you. Be his mentor. “Encourage him”.
“Encourage him” as if the roles were reversed and you were the new preacher and he was retiring. He isn’t your competition. He is the one about whom God would say, “Encourage him”.
