Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Churches of the New Testament by Ethan Longhenry

It takes a unique skill to write a book like “Churches of the New Testament.”  Filled with facts, where sentence after sentence carries details, the writer, Ethan R. Longhenry is able to keep the reader engaged.

“Churches of the New Testament” is not a book dealing only with the first century churches which received inspired letters.  Mr. Longhenry includes Jerusalem and Antioch, plus the churches Paul wrote to, along with the seven churches of Asia in Revelation.

The organization of the book has each chapter begin with the history and geography of the city, where again, facts are piled upon facts.  Following that is a brief, but again fact-filled, section dealing with what the Bible says about each church.  Finally, and this is my favorite part, his conclusions show how we can apply lessons in our churches learned from the examples of these early churches.  Along those lines, there is a section entitled, “The Power of Example.”

The book concludes with timely sections on what God approves and condemns, followed by a discussion on trying to bring the ideal church into reality; which is the same struggle the first century churches fought.

“Churches of the New Testament” is not a lengthy book being less than 150 pages.  Despite its brevity, there is much to be learned. It can be ordered from DeWard Publishing – www.dewardpublishing.com.
