Acts 12:15 – NASB vs. HCSB vs. ESV

Acts 12:15 NASB  They said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, “It is his angel.”

Acts 12:15 HCSB  “You’re crazy!” they told her. But she kept insisting that it was true. Then they said, “It’s his angel!”

Acts 12:15 ESV  They said to her, “You are out of your mind.” But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, “It is his angel!”

One of the claims of the HCSB is that it is less verbose than other major versions. “Out of your mind” is correctly and succinctly translated in the HCSB as “you’re crazy” – one English word for one Greek word. The use of contractions is another aspect of the HCSB I like which makes the reading of it very real – we speak in contractions.
