Quote – Objective Faith vs. Subjective Faith

| November 29, 2012

Quote (1844) – “In comparing the system of Ancient Christianity with that which has in the latest period become prevalent among us, no point of contrast is more prominently conspicuous than this – that in the one (biblical times – PH), the chief attention is directed to the objects of faith, in the other (1844 […]

Titus 2:10 – Adorning the Gospel

| November 29, 2012

To “adorn” means to “put in proper order”  and then “to decorate.” “Adorning the gospel” (Ti 2.10) contextually appears to mean that we individuals teach (2.1,11,15) and live (2.2-10,11,14) in a way that makes the gospel appealing which means we teach and live the gospel showing it has life-altering meaning while waiting for a life-altering […]

Humor – A Christmas Version of an Old Familiar Hymn

“This Wal-Mart’s not my home, I’m just a-passing thru, my presents are in lay-away, that’s why I am so blue.”

Matthew 4:2 – Jsus Fasted

| November 27, 2012

In the desert, the Son of God, fasts for 40 days. “God fasting;” if there is ever a more thought provoking and shocking statement, it would only be “God dying” (Acts 20.28). Fasting is death to self, want, and even death to need. “Man does not live on bread alone,” but man needs bread to […]

Ephesians 2.15 – Re-creation

| November 21, 2012

In reading Ephesians, and specifically 2.11-16 I see re-creation (2.15) in reversing the creation of account. In Genesis man is one (Gn 1), then two (Gn 2), then divided by sin (Gn 3). In Ephesians we have the removal of division by law (2.15) of two groups (2.15) making one man (2.15).

John 13:1 – Agape Love

| November 20, 2012

If agape love is “to seek the best” then love is 1) a purposed action; 2) based upon divine knowledge that discriminates between bad from good and good from best; 3) that separates and sacrifices self from the other for the other. It is a verb based upon a noun; an outward action founded upon […]
